Staging a Room

On some previous posts I've contemplated putting the house on the market. I'm still thinking.  I am trying to stage a great room off the kitchen.  I am looking at the photo and not happy with it.

I've meant to recover the settee, never have.   The chairs are a tiny check.

However that's not my biggest problem.  I'm not happy with the entire wall.  Do I need to get rid of the corner cabinet and replace it with a table or chest?  Are the chairs too tiny to be over here?

Let me know what you think.  Do I forget my horrible decorating and hire a stager?  My friend hired one, and was really unhappy with the cheap corporate decorating look.  What to do!

  1. Look like to me you might need a rug. I would also pull the love seat out from the wall a few feet and pull the chairs up to it and maybe put a tea table between the 3. The painting is very heavy over the love seat, so if you pull it forward that would help. The corner piece is fine, the piece on it might be to big, kinda over powers. It is a little hard to tell, because all I can see if that small area. What else is in the room?? How big is the room. If there is not a lot of other furniture, you might want to consider floating the love seat and chairs in the center and do a round skirted, tall table between them. At least 48 inches. And do a orchid plant, tea set, magazines on it. Some books piled on the floor next to one of the small chairs will add some homey- ness, you need not make it feel so stiff, as the people looking at your home to buy will thank they do not like that room. I hope this helps. Richard at My Old Historic House.

  2. Thanks Richard, I'll post some more photos. The realtor doesn't like this room, wants a tv in it too. She already had me pack up my rug.

I'll go check it out with a rug, see part 3!
